The food was amazingly delicious!! The garlic beans, Gau gee mein, salt and pepper ribs and spicy eggplant and the desserts were all delicious!!!! A must for all visitors!!!
Food there is amazingly prepared, staff is very kind and helpful. Very family oriented place with a calm setting.
Now, don't be fooled by the quaint interior and sometimes less than busy operation because this is truly a hidden gem at the Hilo Shopping Center. On my first visit to this restaurant a couple of years ago, I took a chance and to my surprise, the food here is excellent or even better as compared to other Chinese outlets in Hilo town. After multiple visits, trying a variety of items off the a la carte menu, I've come to find a handful of dishes I rely on every time I return. My most recent visit was July 2024. Here are my favorites and menu recommendations. The Hot & Sour Soup is abdolutely delicious, the best in town, hands down. Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs, lightly breaded and deep fried, coated with tasty seasoning that's not too spicy. Pair this up with a beer and you're set. Two seafood selections I would recommend. The Steamed Basa w/ Soy Sauce or the Deep Fried Basa w/ Oyster Sauce. The second one is my favorite. Crispy, light, generous portion, seasoned just right. Steer clear from the shrimp items though. My two favorite noodle dishes are the Crispy Gau Gee Mein w/ Vegetables and, the Beef Vegetable Chow Fun w/ Gravy. I would order the chow fun w/ gravy vs. the dry one. It's more tasty I feel. A basic, Lemon Chicken done well here with a lemon sauce that's the best in town. Also, a must try is the Hot Pot w/ Eggplant & Minced Pork. The owner's wife recommended this on a previous visit and now, it's one of my favorites. And last, the Sizzling Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin. Brought sizzling to your table, so tender with a sauce that's absoluty delicious. With a bowl of white rice, I'd eat just that if I dined here by myself. If you're looking for a vegetable dish, it has to be the Choi Sum w/ Oyster Sauce. This dining establishment is nothing fancy and, if you're looking for a quick meal w/ over the top service, well, this may not be the spot for you. But, if you're looking for delicious Chinese cuisine cooked by the owner himself, the food here is consistent and when busy, may take some time. But, it's worth the wait in this "chill", air conditioned restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner. I usually dine at lunch when it's less busy or in the early afternoon or evening, during off peak dining hours. Arrive with a group, order "family style" and, share the dishes giving you more options to choose from to enjoy. I usually dine with another person and between the both of us, we usually order four dishes and, enjoy the leftovers later. These menu recommendations are dishes that I feel are the tastiest. Other items I feel are not as tasty but, it might become your favorite, if you give this place a try. And, don't forget to ask for Chinese hot tea at the end of your meal. A perfect finish.
I love their food! My one suggestion is that they should leave voicemail on their phone when they are on vacation or closed for a period of time.
Best Chinese food in Hilo. The wait was a little long but itʻs probably because they are busy. If you have the time, then go for it, if youʻre ʻono for Chinese food. They have a good selection too.
